This is a discussion to answer just that.

What has happened in the past year to cause such a decline in member activity from roughly 30-60 players on at any given time to 5-20?

lets use reasoning to help figure out what has happened.

What everyone says is it's the amount of peacefuls. I agree with them. I've only been here for a year and 3 months but I remember all the pvp when I first joined and it has seriously died out. I get on and there are at least 4 people who aren't in peaceful.

Today when I came on the server (just to check what's going on) there were only 2 people on! For a second I thought the server was going to shut down lol

Problem is, most of the major PvP players have moved on. It is not that most major Pvp players went peaceful. How do we bring back new Pvp players, if that's what you want? I feel the majority of players would rather have the benefit of being peaceful.

Rhyno, you are totally correct. The majority of the people want peaceful. Maybe people just want a different sort of a server, but Jigsaw can't change the entire server to fit these new needs. Honestly, Jigsaw has done so much to try and change the server to make it better I don't know what he can do more. My only suggestion is this... two people create huge pvp factions that people donate to and they duel it out. Eventually more pvp factions emerge. Rhyno, you were part of Beyond, and honestly when I ran TheCreed I went to sleep worrying that I would be destroyed by you guys. At the same time, I felt it was part of my duty to fight back. We just need more factions like that where they don't shy away from a fight, they embrace it. And thats up to the players and the faction leaders to decide. Factions create pvp if they desire it.

I think many of us that have been around for a bit are hoping things will go back to the way they were. Well, those days are long gone and the direction of the server has changed. Rather then asking for the server to update plugins and make new events, perhaps we all need to change and adapt to the present demands of the server.

I completely agree. I only have one complaint about rival faction wars. The last one I was part of, everyone kept getting muted by Mods everytime we would talk about the battle and trying to call people in the opposing faction out. It was fun and competitive by both sides, but we kept getting told to take it to PM. Kind of hard to have a multi faction war in PM.

On another note all the popular servers these days defy the point of minecraft. You mine and you craft. Minecraft isn't meant to be about pvp or minigames or even stats. Its meant to be a creative game. Nothing Jigsaw ever does will change that.

You are right with the part that Jigsaw is unable to control what players like to do or how they want this game to go. However you also pretty much said that it is impossible to change something by working on it. Houses can be built, wood can be carved, rocks formed. You cannot tell me that Bukkit wasn't invented to make things like those possible. If we really wanted to have a go at that simple thing you call to be "Mining and Crafting" Jigsaw would have never chosen to run all of this, and instead just created a Classic server.

Plugins can change the means of this game, and they clearly do seeing as many thousand unique Minecraft servers had a successful go at that

" many thousand unique Minecraft servers had a successful go at that." Like you said, HAD a successful go. So what changed?

This is my opinion, but if you want my honest answer - This game is simply getting old. The hype it received is gone, and it is just a casual game that some of us play - some more, some less.

I like this server because I can always find someone to chat with who I enjoy their company. I honestly hate playing single player minecraft because of that xD

I honestly think that some people want to bring back pvp so much, that they force people into pvp by hunting them down. But, I don't think that solves the problem, it might solve it for a short time, but the hunted person will eventually turn peaceful to stop getting killed. Either join a peaceful faction or just leave the server because of their losses.

Maybe its just that a majority of the people playing Minecraft have switched to large minigame servers where they have new content and more minigames come out every month. There is no such thing as a medium size survival server anymore, you're either a large YouTuber sponsored server with minigames and all types of crap with a survival world tapped on to it or a small server centralized on one or two things like Mutiny.

We're all so caught up on trying to change Mutiny of 'fix' whatever went wrong when really its just that the demand for these kinds of servers is gone.

The market has become saturated with servers and it is increasingly hard to keep your name out there. It isn't impossible, but it is much harder now than when I first started the server. No new players = less people on the server = less fun for old players = old players start to leave.

Who can we hunt down at this point? :/ there's only a handful of active pvp faction members.
