The Future of MutinyCraft

    Update 11/28/2015

    It has been decided that MutinyCraft will add a FTB Infinity Evolved server and a Hardcore Factions server. A prison server is still on the table, but if we add one it will not be right away. A lot of work will need to be done to get the FTB server ready. However, the hardcore factions server should be ready to go very soon after the build event is over that will decide the spawn building/area.

    More information will be coming soon. Expect a dedicated thread to ideas for the hardcore factions server in the near future.

    As I'm writing this there are 5 people online playing MutinyCraft and 4 of them are staff members. It is clear that the popularity of the server has been decreasing steadily over the last year or two and that is something I would like to change. I'm well aware that many people have lost interest in the server and a few have simply lost interest in minecraft altogether. Regardless, I believe that MutinyCraft can become more enjoyable again if we put our minds together and figure out what the server wants.

    There are many ideas that get thrown around, but I can honestly say that I do not know which ones will work. If I knew what the answer was to make the server more popular again I would do it in a heartbeat. That is why I'm writing this post. I need your help and I think if we put our minds together we can move this server in a direction that people will enjoy.

    A few things that I will not do:
    • Reset the current survival server
    • Shutdown the server altogether
    That is really the only two things I wont do. Some people have said that a full reset is the only way to get people to play again, but I have always made it my goal to preserve everyone's history here as best as I can. That doesn't mean we cannot create an additional server that resembles the current survival server for a fresh start. I simply want to always have the original survival server available for people who enjoy having that experience.

    Some possibilities that have been brought up:
    • Copy current survival server rank structure/plugins with new worlds
    • Create a hardcore factions server
    • Create a sky block server
    • Create a prison server
    • Modded server (tekkit, ftb, etc...)
    If you have any ideas post them below! I'm ready to make this server enjoyable for everyone that wants to continue playing here. I just need to know what the players would like to see!

      I would love a prison server. I find them very enjoyable. In my head, the trick is to make mining not the only way to make money. Have mini automated events every so often, allow players to make shops have their stake in the economy, and PVP, obviously. Go to the bottom of page four if you haven't seen already, those are most of my ideas for a prison server. :)

      I think that FTB and factions would be most beneficial to the players because of how open-ended they are. In FTB there are 175 mods coming together, a player could go off on a path with many of those mods and there's almost nothing to stop them from doing whatever and making whatever they want. In factions, the players make factions, make bases to fight against other factions, and the staff isn't telling them exactly what to do. I think a prison server is too boring as the path to the end goal is just making money. The server dictates how you make money and how fast you make it, there's really no way to let the players do what they want and go off on their own, they are basically stuck to just grinding money. In my opinion players would enjoy the other two servers more than the latter because of the almost endless possibilities and more likely interaction with other players.

      I haven't been on lately but I remember when mutiny had 60+ people on and one of the main reasons was PvP, I believe that a hard core faction server would be the most beneficial

      Player interaction on prison servers can be done pretty well too as far as I remember, I used to play on a prison server I believe about 3 months ago with one of my friends. As long as you assign players as guards to keep everyone in check it might turn out to be pretty fun too! :)

      So okay, you can interact with other players, but what is there to do other than to grind money all day by mining?

      Of course, this might be fun for some people but I think that a factions server would appeal to more players.

      Factions won't appeal to everyone and mutiny looks to be mostly a PvE server now, there's not many competitve Faction leaders around and a faction server would probably not be used much.

      Modded server sounds good but how does it attract new players? Modded servers always have trouble attracting publicity, and if the modded server becomes successful is it the successor of the current survival server?

      Either way, the actual question is, what is more suitable for the whole and what happens to the normal survival server?

      Because if one becomes popular then the other won't really have that luxury because i'm going to assume that if the server that you plan on making becomes popular it means the problems lie mostly with the survival server.

      In all honesty it would serve you (Jigsaw ) and the community a great deal to figure out the survival server's problem in the decrease in popularity, whether that be voting or something deeper, in the end those problems are bound to cross over to the new server and create the same problems, plus it gives you the chance to be able to fix the original survival server's problems and have a nice even split of popularity between the two again which would probably result in more popularity than if you simply opened a new server.

      Still, going back to how you make money.
      Voting - Obvious how you make money, but only once per day therefore not an essential part to making money.
      Gambling - This involves paying money to possibly get more money. The prison servers I've been on have chances highly skewed towards their favor, making the people playing barely any chance to get money. Of course the chances for the player could be increased but I think it would be highly overpowered or underpowered, hard to find a happy medium
      Auctions - This idea could work if there are "uncollectibles" as you said but I don't think this would be of any use if you were just selling diamond blocks for 700k a stack in auction as opposed to selling it for 720k to a sign.
      Automated events - I would be interested if you elaborated a little more on this and how it could be used to give people money while not being too overpowered/giving too much money to the players.

      Overall idea - So what you do is start by mining, you rank up, after hours of mining you finally get to Z, you worked all this way, and now you can get your own building plot. You prestige, go through the ranks again, all in order to rank up faster/ get another plot. How is having to work for land more fun than just getting it for free on a regular server?

      Other ideas - I've seen a prison server that has bounties, so you can set a bounty on someone and the plugin will automatically pay the killer if they happen to kill the person the bounty was put on. I thought it was a pretty cool idea but it could also be functional in a factions server.

      To point out again, you can't make everyone happy. There's always going to be people unhappy with any decision we make. You could say the same thing that a classic survival server won't appeal to everyone, because it won't. No server ever will, everyone has different interests.
      We don't need there to be a lot now, what we need is some people to form the base of the server then we can focus on attracting new players. The players we have now aren't going to be the only ones playing on these servers. Besides, most of the players that play here now are here and stay here as a result of their friends inviting them to the server.

      You shouldn't get a plot at Z. You should be able to acquire one earlier. Auctions are not meant for selling blocks, they are meant for selling hard to obtain items. An automated event I was thinking of is some sort of chat event. Every x amount of minutes a message in chat pops up "First one to type xGsyxHxw46d2XHa" wins!" First one to type this gets, lets say, 3mil. Another one could be a Parkour event. Every 24-48 hours, an automatic Broadcast is sent out "Parkour event! /warp parkour 10 minutes!" After ten minutes, the gates open, and the first one to the finish line wins a prize. Money or items. Bounties are also a good idea.

      The overall idea of a Prison Server is not grinding. Sure, some people are a fan of that. In my eyes, the overall idea is to power through the ranks while making friends and killing your enemies. Sure, the people who mine the most will have the most cash. However, that is not the only way to make money. Besides, on survival I would go caving for hours on end. Who's to say we can't do the same in a prison mine?

      I believe you should keep the original intact, and start over with a factions server. If you must, keep peaceful factions in, but limit it to one of them like it was 3 years ago. Let people keep donation ranks, and all people who are "legacy" members should start as one of the middle ranks and maybe get like 500 mcmmo to start with, whatever you feel is comparable to make it worth them starting over but not screwing over people who join fresh. I will 100% sure come back if there is some sort of fresh start with PVP. I'd also be down for a Prison Server, I've "escaped" on about 3 of them and its lots of fun.

      I'm defiantly all for factions, leading a faction and talking to my members has been something that I've been interested in nearly since day 1. But now you look at the majority of big servers they're not factions, instead are minigames, prison and small stuff like that. And we can't go and deny that a huge part of Mutiny's past is based around factions and PvP. But from reading previous comments it's pretty clear we want a new server preferably a fresh start and possibly factions? If possible, what about a RPG/ Factions server? I don't know how compatible they are with each other or how much time it would take to even set it up but it is something worth putting some thought into. The RPG could have different classes that you can focus on leveling by PvP rather than our current unbalanced McMMO where you can no life train mobs and do ridiculous amounts of damage. And it can also provide quests such as gathering or getting so many kills for something to do on the server rather than constant factions.

      I do like the idea of Mutinycraft getting a Hardcore Factions server and a FTB server however aren't you afraid of splitting too many players between servers and not having a high playercount on any server, I know that the Hardcore Factions will be part of the hub however the FTB can't be (To my knowledge) as it requires a different client.

      So aren't you afraid of splitting too many players between FTB and Original Mutiny thus having less of a community as a whole?

      I haven't read through all the comments yet, however I do like some of what I've read. I've never played on a modded server like tekkit or ftb before so I don't have much of an opinion on that, but back in the day I used to play prison a ton and I would be overly excited for a prison server to come into effect. Hardcore factions would also be fun as that's what I'm into now, but for me the prison server is the most hype.

      It won't split the members of the community more than they are. I'm not saying its 100% going to happen and Jigsaw and can tell you for sure when he decides, but I'm guessing FTB is going to be more build/peaceful oriented and obviously factions is meant for pvp and griefing. If FTB allows explosives and griefing then maybe it would split members, but I doubt personally it will be that way. Therefore the people who are in peaceful factions will most of the time go to FTB and people who enjoy PVP will go towards the factions server. Again, I'm not staff and am not stating any facts, that's just my semi-educated guess.

      I mean, the server has been split since I can remember; Peaceful vs Non peaceful. I know my group is interested in factions and FTB!
